Come and meet Marie Duvoisin, illustrator of the comic strip “Une femme dans la course” published by Le Lombard, shortlisted for the Prix BD du Pays d’Ancenis 2025/2026.
Born under the sign of Aquarius on 24 January 1994 in L’Isle-d’Espagnac, a stone’s throw from Angoulême, illustrator and colourist Marie Duvoisin first trained at the Pivaut school of applied arts in Nantes. She graduated in 2014 with a diploma in comics and illustration. While taking part in the Quai des Bulles festival in Saint-Malo, she met Hervé Richez and Laurence Convers, who are responsible for the Grand Angle collection at Bamboo. In 2018, they published her first album, Nos Embellies. Conceived by Gwénola Morizur, the script recounts an intimate slice of contemporary life, set against a backdrop of a snowy road trip and impromptu encounters. For the same publisher, she then produced Jukebox Motel, a diptych adapted from Tom Graffin’s novel of the same name, published by JC Lattès in 2016. Transposed into a comic strip by its own author, the story tells of the painful emancipation of a Quebec painter expatriated to the United States in the 1960s, first from his family, then from the art market. The two volumes were published in 2022 and 2023 respectively. In 2024, Une femme dans la course was published by Le Lombard. Once again the brainchild of scriptwriter Gwénola Morizur, this work of fiction tells the story of a marathon pioneer in the 60s and 70s, when women were not yet allowed to compete.
