Some transformations come without warning. In myths, as in bodies, something changes. Sometimes gradually, sometimes abruptly. Sometimes without us having chosen it.
Metamorphosis is both fascinating and unsettling: it promises a new world, but demands that we let go. It involves shedding one form to inhabit another, and with it comes the question: am I still myself after I have changed?
Echoing the world of Sandra Dufour, who embroiders her characters’ transformations with needle and thread, these two philosophical workshops invite you to unravel the thread of your own metamorphoses: those you go through, those you fear, and those you choose.
No prior philosophical knowledge is required to take part – just curiosity!
Workshop 2 — The chosen metamorphosis: can we truly reinvent ourselves?
‘Does wanting to change mean betraying who we were – or doing them justice? ”
Changing careers, leaving a relationship, changing one’s mind about who one thought one was… When we’re the ones initiating the transformation, other questions arise: do we really have the power to reinvent ourselves? What remains of oneself afterwards? And what if change were, at heart, the truest form of staying true to oneself?
Suitable for all ages 15 and over.
Workshop 1 on Tuesday 24 November at the Oudon library.
Attendance at both workshops is recommended but not compulsory. No prior knowledge of philosophy is required.
