Louise, a former Maths Sup student, is trying her hand at stand-up comedy.
She talks about her loves, her family, and in particular her mother. Following a vitriolic sketch, mother and daughter have not spoken to each other for nearly three years. Despite their estrangement and lack of inspiration, Louise decides to reappear at her mother’s house to attend Mother’s Day. She sees the long weekend as an opportunity to nurture her next show. It will also be a chance to catch up with her brothers Gabriel and Ziggy, and to meet their spouses Arthur and Florence. As everyone gets to know each other, the absence of the mother surprises, then worries.
Somewhere between the comedies of Jaoui/Bacri and Le Perche, Mother’s Day is a tragicomedy that pays tribute to siblings, to people who talk without listening and who understand each other without talking.
