Come and meet the artists Claire Maugeais and Jean-Christophe Nourisson at the MAT Montrelais.

The title of the exhibition stems from the observation that opacity persists at the very heart of contemporary hyper-transparency. The artists invite us to reflect on some of these glaring paradoxes, between the anonymity of actions and the arrogant self-expression of megacities, between systems of control and comfort zones. Their works are like silent poems and blind images; they cast a stark light on our conditions of existence. They envisage the art space as an ‘other space’, yet one that remains connected to the outside world and is constantly evolving.

In her paintings on everyday surfaces, Claire Maugeais appropriates images of extractivism and predatory construction. She strips them of their monumental and functional significance. Chimeras, biting irony and visual inventions put play back at the heart of the debate.

Jean-Christophe Nourisson scatters sculptural clues that prompt reflection on the porous relationship between the self and objects. Thresholds, display cases, machines and monuments interact with the space and thwart any linear interpretation.
