The trail follows the entire Loire Valley from Mont Gerbier de Jonc to La Baule, a distance of 1,243 km.
The GR3 was the first long-distance hiking trail in France to be signposted in 1947 by the Fédération Française de Randonnée, and was finalised in 1983 under the name “GR3”.
In the Ancenis area, you can follow the trail between Oudon and Le Cellier, following the Loire as closely as possible. The trail then climbs along the Sillon de Bretagne, flirts with the Brière and reaches the medieval town of Guérande before finishing on the embankment at La Baule.
