A stroll along the banks of the Loire on the historic border between Anjou and Brittany.
The starting point for your walk, Ingrandes-le-Fresne-sur-Loire marks the beginning of the Pays d’Ancenis and the historic border between Anjou and Brittany. Merchants’ manor houses, bargemen’s and fishermen’s houses… on its quaysides you’ll discover some real architectural treasures.
After a few kilometres of walking, the old fishing village of La Meilleraie, in Varades, will charm you in its turn. Stop for a few minutes to admire the Abbey Church of Saint-Florent-le-Vieil on the other bank of the Loire.
It was these same banks of the Loire, at Anetz, that inspired Hervé Bazin to write his novel “Au nom du fils”. The house where he lived, “L’Emeronce”, is located at “Les Cosniers”.
Your walk ends in Oudon, where you can visit a magnificent medieval castle built in the 14th century. And don’t forget: from the top of the tower, you can enjoy an exceptional panoramic view over the Loire Valley!
