Chapelle des Ursulines

The Ursulines chapel has a dual purpose: to host professional exhibitions and a number of cultural events (shows, concerts, etc.).

The Ursulines chapel (or Saint-Joseph chapel) is a chapel attached to the Ursulines convent.

The chapel and convent were built when the Ursulines arrived in Saint-Géréon in 1642. The convent became a hospital, a fodder shop and then a military barracks (the Rohan barracks). These many changes damaged the site. The ruined chapel, of which only two sections of wall remained, was one of the last restoration projects carried out on the former convent. The buildings were bought by the Ancenis town council after the departure of the military in 1995.
The chapel (and the rest of the convent) were listed as historic monuments in 1990.

The Ursulines chapel has a dual purpose: to host professional exhibitions and a number of cultural events (shows, concerts, etc.). For each exhibition, events are organised around the theme developed by the artist: lectures, cultural activities, etc. Guided tours are also organised for schoolchildren in the Ancenis area to raise their awareness of art.
