Château de Bourmont

Château de Bourmont has belonged to the same family since 1697, and is now inhabited by the 25th generation of descendants.

A former 15th-century stronghold on the Marches de Bretagne, Château de Bourmont is located 30km south of Châteaubriant. It is made up of a group of buildings in very different styles. The old château, burnt down during the Revolution, was replaced by a neo-Gothic dwelling at the very end of the 19th century. The old entrance, comprising a gateway framed by two pillars, a moat and two symmetrical Louis XIV-style pavilions, dates from 1710.

Situated at the end of the east-west bridle path, this group of buildings, which is listed as a Historic Monument and borders a much-used local road, is a fine example of the old road that once linked Candé to Freigné. It marks the landscape in a particularly charming way and forms a complete architectural ensemble, characteristic of this period, as do the large outbuildings and the orangery in the kitchen garden, also built in the early 18th century.

Guided tours on request for groups of at least 20 people.
Guided tours for school groups (primary, secondary and high school students) are available to raise pupils’ awareness of their local and historical heritage. A historical theme (Middle Ages, 18th century, French Revolution, 19th century) can be explored in greater depth with a history teacher, who will take your pupils on a passionate journey through time.

On European Heritage Days, a member of the family can take you on a tour of the grounds and chapel (lasting around 1 hour).
