Come and discover the history of Vallons de l’Erdre and take a stroll in the grounds of the former château de La Ferronnays.
A fortified castle was first built on the site in the 14th century by Yvon XII de la Jaille. This first castle was successively destroyed by order of Henri IV around 1598, then by Richelieu around 1618. The dovecote, converted into a water tower, is the only remaining reminder of the original estate.
Plans for a new château were drawn up in 1764 by Abbé Pierre Charles Gaignard, a native of Bonnoeuvre and principal of Ancenis College, for the Ferron de La Ferronnays family.
Badly damaged during the Revolution and sold in lots as national property, the de La Ferronnays family rebuilt the property in the mid-19th century.
The main building was demolished between 1912 and 1914. The outbuildings dating from 1765 were restored between 1906 and 1908.
The park, dating from the 18th century and owned by the Cossé-Brissac family, has been listed as a historic monument since 1994 and is one of the “Jardins de France”.
