In Ancenis-Saint-Géréon, the Etang du Gotha is an ideal spot for fishing. The surrounding area has been landscaped with bowling greens. Ideal for a day out with family or friends.
In the 10th century, in the village of Saint-Géréon, there stood a monastery on the site of the quarry. It was destroyed in the year 1000 and later became a Benedictine priory around 1100. All that remains are the granite piers of the entrance porch and the gate in the wall between the church and the bakery. This priory was destroyed well after the Revolution, and the quarry was not opened until much later.
Today, the Gotha pond is open for fishing (fishing permits can be purchased from the Café Le Ronsard in Saint-Géréon or at the Decathlon in Ancenis-Saint-Géréon). The surrounding area has been developed with boules courts and a playground, making it a great place to spend a day with family or friends.
