Snail farm; breeding and sale of cooked snails.
This former ambulance driver gave it all up to breed, rear and cook snails.
He started out with 1,500 large grey snails, then 70,000, and will soon have 100,000. The snails live in a 400 m² enclosure, fitted out with untreated wooden planks and netting that allows the snails to ‘cling on’ wherever they please, sleeping during the day and quietly coming down at night to feed.
Today, the farmer offers six ready-to-eat products for sale directly from the farm or at markets:
– Traditional snails in their shells with parsley butter,
– Snail shells as appetisers,
– Péfou with snails,
– Snail bites with parsley butter,
– Snail terrines,
– White pudding with snails.
For the festive season, you can order your snails before 20 December using an order form, which can be handed in person, sent by email, MMS or post.
