Cycling in the Ancenis region :
a breath of fresh air to savour!
Have you ever experienced the charm of a two-wheeled holiday? A return to simple things, a closeness to nature, an incredible feeling of freedom, the benefits of sporting effort... At a time when slow tourism is all the rage, that's what we promise you on our cycling itineraries in the Pays d'Ancenis!
Our three favourite cyclingroutes
La Loire à Vélo:
the must-see tour
Objectively speaking, the 900km or so of the Loire à Vélo cycle route is one of the most beautiful in France and even Europe! And on the section that crosses the Ancenis region, we have some great suggestions for routes that are sure to get the calves pumping for beginners and experienced cyclists alike! With well thought-out routes along the Loire and Erdre rivers, through hedged farmland, marshes, hillsides and vineyards, you won't know where to turn your handlebars!
With your hair blowing in the wind and off the beaten track, you can pedal along our small, flat, signposted roads, alternating with car-free itineraries. Because it's always good to combine effort with comfort, you can take advantage of a green spot to spread out your picnic, discover the fishing villages of Ingrandes-Le Fresne-sur-Loire and la Meilleraie and Loireauxence (Varades ), unless you prefer the exhibition of the moment at the MAT in Ancenis-Saint-Géréon. A little further afield, you can step back in time at the medieval château of Oudon before cooling your toes at the Chêne lake. The final straight to the monumental Folies Siffait. Perhaps it's time to put your feet up and enjoy a chilled aperitif in one of our guinguettes?
The Voie Verte: follow the tracks!
Go green on the 47 kilometres of the Pays d'Ancenis greenway, which covers the old railway line that once linked Carquefou to Candé. Some of the tracks still bear witness to past activity. This signposted and safe route, away from all motor vehicles, is ideal for families. You can pedal happily through the welcome shade of the woods to lush green meadows. Along the way, you'll find old railway stations, lakes and playgrounds that are perfect places to stop for a picnic (using local produce while you're at it!).
The Régalante: treat yourself!
It's the newest cycle route, and you're in for a treat! Launched in 2023, the Régalante is the new link for cyclists between Nantes and Mont-Saint-Michel. There's no challenge here, only pleasure, thanks to a gentle gradient that will delight even the youngest cyclists. The 275km route, divided into nine stages, runs through the historic Marches de Bretagne region, passing through Joué-sur-Erdre, where you can enjoy a delicious and refreshing break on the banks of Lac de Vioreau.
